Proper Calibration

Your scale will produce more accurate and consistent weights if it is regularly calibrated. The scale needs to be calibrated at the site where it will be used. If the scale does need to be moved, you will also need to calibrate it there.

Select a Suitable Environment

Air pressure, temperature, and humidity are a few examples of variables that can impact how accurate an analytical scale is. The scale should be positioned so that each of these variables remains constant.

To avoid changes in the readings, keep the balances in a place that is free from vibration. A weighing table with vibration absorption is an option. Although temperature and airflow might alter the scale, it is recommended to place these scales away from windows and HVAC vents.

Minimize Sample-Induced Errors

When using the scale, it’s crucial to handle each sample carefully to acquire an accurate reading of weight. Glass or plastic sample trays, which are non-conductive, can conduct an electrostatic charge. This might impact the outcomes of the weighing. Using an ioniser that can balance the electrostatic charge will help you reduce this.

In order to prevent air currents inside the enclosure, make sure the samples are at ambient temperature. Also, to prevent moisture absorption, materials that are hygroscopic should be immediately weighed with the balance doors closed.

More accurate measurements can be made by centering the sample on the scale. Also, confirm that the scale can weigh the necessary increments.

It is beneficial to keep the scale clean to prevent dirt or dust from having an impact on the scale. Abrasive cleaning products like solvents should be avoided. The scale may typically be cleaned with a moist cloth and mild soap, being careful not to get any extra liquid on the scale. Use a gentle brush to remove any loose samples that have become adhered to the scales. Let the balance to warm up before using it again if it was unplugged for cleaning.
